Data Protection Officer (DPO)
Definition:
A data protection officer (DPO) is responsible for overseeing an organization’s compliance with requirements from relevant data protection and/or privacy laws, the appointment of whom is generally required or recommended by law.
Commentary:
DPOs are required under data protection laws in certain jurisdictions such as, UK, EU, Singapore, Canada and South Korea. DPOs and other similar functions are recommended in other jurisdictions, such as Australia, Hong Kong and Japan.
