Data Quality Rule
Definition:
A statement that applies an algorithm or logic to a data value to measure the fitness-for-purpose of the value. The statement is the documented definition of the criteria used to measure that the data is fit-for-purpose.
Commentary:
A data quality rule is based on a business or technical rule and may execute a measurement of one or more of the data quality dimensions.
A data quality rule validates the data against the dimensions of quality and may determine either an absolute or suspect defect.
